Why This Build
Wanted a dual-GPU setup for lossless scaling that could actually push frames on my 1440p 240Hz monitor. Playing a ton of Palworld lately, and that game gets way more responsive once you’re hitting 150+ FPS - base building and Pal combat feel dramatically smoother when you can maintain high refresh rates. The 7900 XT gives excellent rasterization performance, while the RX 7600 handles frame generation duty without bottlenecking.
Component Choices
CPU & Motherboard: The 7800X3D at $319 was perfect for this since the extra cache helps a lot in open-world games like Palworld, and the MSI MPG X670E Carbon WiFi has solid PCIe lane distribution for running both AMD cards properly.
GPUs: Grabbed the 7900 XT for $579 as my main card and the RX 7600 for $239 as the frame gen card - both being AMD means no driver weirdness and the 7600 has enough compute for smooth 2x/3x scaling.
RAM & Storage: 32GB of Kingston DDR5 for $136 since Palworld can eat up RAM with huge bases, and the 990 EVO Plus keeps load times short.
Cooling & Case: Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 240 for $75 keeps the 7800X3D cool and quiet, and the $80 case has decent airflow for dual GPUs.
PSU: 750W Corsair RM750e is plenty for this combo with the 7900 XT pulling around 315W, the RX 7600 using 165W during frame gen, and the 7800X3D being super efficient.
Performance Notes
Running Palworld maxed out at 1440p with 3x gen, flowscale 65, performance mode - easily hitting 200+ FPS in most areas. The RX 7600 sits around 95-100% usage during frame gen which is expected. Base building with tons of Pals active stays smooth, and combat feels incredibly responsive at these frame rates. The 7900 XT handles the base rendering without breaking a sweat, usually hovering around 70-80% usage.
Upgrade Path
If you want even higher base frames for 4x scaling, upgrading to a 7900 XTX or waiting for RDNA 4 would be the move - though honestly the 7900 XT already pushes great numbers. The RX 7600 is solid for 2x/3x scaling, but if you want buttery smooth 4x results, grabbing a 7700 XT or 7800 XT would help.
The 7800X3D should handle games for years, and the X670E board supports future Ryzen chips if you need an upgrade down the line. Another 1TB or 2TB SSD would be nice since game sizes keep getting bigger. If you’re still on 1080p, this build is absolutely begging for a 1440p high refresh monitor to actually take advantage of all those frames.
